Dental bridges are prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth by bridging the gap. Anchored onto adjacent teeth or dental implants, they restore both function and aesthetics, providing a seamless smile.
Dental bridges restore essential functions like chewing and speaking, preventing surrounding teeth from shifting. They also enhance the appearance of your smile and improve overall oral health.

Bridge is a category, not a single treatment. Which one suits you depends on how many teeth are missing, how healthy the neighbouring teeth are, and whether you want implants involved. These are the options available at the clinic.
The most common choice. A pontic sits in the gap, held by crowns on the healthy teeth either side. Reliable when those neighbouring teeth are strong enough to carry the load.
Bonded to the adjacent teeth or to implants rather than relying on them for full support. Layered porcelain mimics natural enamel closely, which makes it a strong choice for front teeth.
Anchored on implants instead of natural teeth. The option to consider when the neighbouring teeth are not strong enough, or when you would rather not have them crowned.
Two crowns and one pontic, replacing a single missing tooth. The most frequently fitted configuration. See the three unit bridge in detail.
Materials run from porcelain fused to metal through to full zirconia. Zirconia costs more but avoids the grey line that can appear at the gumline as metal backed crowns age. Your dentist should tell you which material is quoted before you commit.
The figures below are estimates, not quotes. Bridge pricing is driven by three things: how many units the bridge is, what material it is made from, and whether it sits on your own teeth or on implants. A quote is only meaningful after an examination and an X-ray, because work you may need first, such as an extraction, a root canal on an anchor tooth or a bone graft, is priced separately.
| Bridge type | Istanbul estimate | UK private estimate |
|---|---|---|
| Per unit (each crown or pontic in the bridge) | £130 to £350 | £600 to £1,300 (central London higher) |
| 3-unit bridge on natural teeth, porcelain fused to metal | £400 to £550 | £1,800 to £3,000 |
| 3-unit bridge on natural teeth, zirconia | £550 to £850 | £2,100 to £3,800 |
| 3-unit bridge, premium layered zirconia or E.max | £800 to £1,050 | £2,500 to £3,800 |
| 3-unit implant supported bridge (2 implants plus the bridge) | £1,200 to £2,400 | £4,000 to £8,000 |
| Full arch fixed zirconia bridge, per arch | £3,150 to £7,100 | £10,000 to £18,000 |
| Single implant, if one is needed as an anchor | £350 to £950 | £1,500 to £3,500 |
Ranges are estimates valid at July 2026, converted from euro and dollar clinic tariffs where the original price was not published in sterling. Currency movement of a few per cent shifts them. The implant supported figures are the least precise on the table because very few clinics on either side publish them as a single line item; they are built up from the cost of the implants plus the cost of the bridge on top.
What an Istanbul bridge price normally covers: consultation and examination, panoramic X-ray, tooth preparation, the temporary bridge, all laboratory work, fitting and adjustment appointments.
What it normally does not cover: extractions, root canal treatment on an anchor tooth, bone grafting or sinus work before an implant, gum treatment, night guards, and flights or accommodation unless a package has been agreed in writing.
One honest comparison point for UK readers: NHS Band 3 in England covers a bridge for a flat charge of £332.10 where it is clinically justified. If you can get the work you need on the NHS, that is cheaper than travelling. The Istanbul comparison is with UK private fees, which is what most people are quoted for cosmetic or elective bridge work, and with waiting times that private treatment avoids.
A bridge is a good solution for a specific situation rather than a universal answer to a missing tooth. Being told plainly that you are not a candidate is more useful than being fitted with something that fails in three years.
If the anchor teeth are not strong enough, the usual alternative is a bridge carried on dental implants, which takes the load off your natural teeth entirely. Dr Cem Baysal will tell you at the assessment stage which of these applies to your case, including when the answer is that you should not have a bridge at all.
A conventional bridge on natural teeth is a two visit treatment and fits comfortably into one trip. An implant supported bridge cannot be compressed in the same way, because the implants must integrate with bone before they can carry a permanent bridge.
Do not book a non-refundable return flight for the day after your last planned appointment. A single laboratory adjustment is normal and is far easier to handle while you are still in Istanbul than after you have flown home.
Material choice changes both the price and the appearance, and it is the detail most often left vague in an online quote. Ask which material your figure refers to before you agree to anything.
| Material | Best suited to | Appearance | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Porcelain fused to metal | Back teeth, longer spans, budget-led cases | Good, but a grey line can appear at the gumline as the gum recedes over the years | The lowest cost option and very strong, though the metal core blocks light so it never looks quite as natural at the front |
| Monolithic zirconia | Back teeth, heavy bite, patients who grind | Natural in colour, slightly more opaque than layered work | Very strong and metal free, with less translucency than layered ceramics |
| Layered zirconia | Front teeth and visible smile zone | The most lifelike of the zirconia options | The layered porcelain surface can chip under a heavy bite, so it is used with care at the back |
| E.max (lithium disilicate) | Short front bridges, single tooth gaps in the smile zone | Excellent translucency, closest to natural enamel | Not suitable for long spans or heavy grinding; strength is lower than zirconia |
As a rule of thumb: zirconia at the back where load matters, layered ceramics at the front where light matters. Porcelain fused to metal remains a sound clinical choice, particularly out of sight, and the price difference is real rather than cosmetic marketing. If you are also considering zirconium crowns elsewhere in the mouth, matching materials across the arch keeps the shade consistent.
As an estimate, a 3-unit bridge on natural teeth is typically £400 to £1,050 in Istanbul depending on the material, against roughly £1,800 to £3,800 privately in the UK. An implant supported 3-unit bridge is a different treatment and costs more, estimated at £1,200 to £2,400. These are ranges, not quotes: your final cost is confirmed after an examination and X-ray, and any extractions, root canals or grafting needed first are priced on top.
Allow five to seven days for a bridge on natural teeth, which is fitted across two main appointments with laboratory time in between. An implant supported bridge needs two trips: three to five days for implant placement, then three to six months of healing at home, then five to seven days to fit the final bridge. Leave a spare day before your return flight so any adjustment can be made before you leave.
It depends on the state of the teeth either side of the gap. An implant supported bridge does not rely on your natural teeth, so nothing healthy has to be cut down and the load is carried by the implants. That is the better option when the neighbouring teeth are sound, weak, or missing entirely. A conventional bridge is often the more sensible choice when those teeth already need crowns anyway, or when surgery is not suitable for you. It is also faster and cheaper.
A well made bridge that is cleaned properly commonly lasts many years, and the material is rarely the thing that fails first. What usually ends a bridge is decay or gum problems at the anchor teeth underneath it. Daily cleaning under the pontic with interdental brushes or a floss threader, plus regular check-ups, matters more to the lifespan than which ceramic you chose. Heavy grinding shortens it, which is why a night guard is recommended if you clench.
Not a conventional one. A bridge on natural teeth needs a sound tooth at each end of the gap to carry the load. If those teeth are missing, mobile or heavily broken down, the options are an implant supported bridge, individual implants, or a removable partial denture. Fitting a bridge onto anchors that cannot take the strain tends to fail, and when it does you can lose the anchor teeth as well as the bridge.
Yes, with the right material. Layered zirconia and E.max are the choices for the visible smile zone because they transmit light in a way that resembles natural enamel. Porcelain fused to metal is strong and cheaper but the metal core can show as a faint grey line at the gumline over time, which is why it is generally kept to the back teeth. Shade is matched against your existing teeth before the laboratory work begins, and checked again at try-in before anything is cemented.
Preparation of the anchor teeth is done under local anaesthetic, so the appointment itself should not be painful. Mild sensitivity to hot and cold for a few days afterwards is common while wearing the temporary bridge. Once the final bridge is cemented you can eat normally, though it is sensible to avoid very hard items such as ice or nut shells on ceramic work, and to be careful with sticky foods while the temporary is in place.
Tell the clinic first, with photographs, before anyone touches it. Most issues after travel are minor: a high bite spot, sensitivity, or a temporary that has come loose. A local dentist can re-cement a temporary or take an initial look, and the clinic in Istanbul can advise on what is happening and what should be done. Ask what the arrangements are for follow-up and for any warranty on the laboratory work before you commit, and get the answer in writing.
